Monetize Using Google
I’ve recently set up a new Google AdSense account to monetize my real estate website. I have researched Google and other affiliated programs that gear towards generating money by placing ads on your own personal website. I have found that this method does in fact work and can be of great benefit to you. However, you must abide by the Google guidelines they have posted, or your account will be permanently deleted.
Opening up your own Google AdSense account is easy and free to use. You can get started by logging onto the website. Take note, another program called Google AdWords can easily be mistaken for the recommended Google AdSense program. Just remember that Google AdSense is free to use and Google AdWords is not. After I spent a great deal of time researching these programs, I can tell you that this method does work as well.
With Google AdSense, you simply just log onto the website provided, set up an account for yourself, and choose which advertisements you want displayed on your website. Google also provides you with the option to block certain types of websites from being displayed on your site, hence, competitors.
This option worked greatly in my favor. Given that I’m a Real Estate agent, the last thing I wanted were advertisements of competing Real Estate agents being posted on my own personal site. If you log onto my website, which is mentioned at the bottom of this article, you will see how I was able to pick and choose where each ad was placed, if at all. I did choose to post some of my competitor’s ads since they offered valuable information regarding real estate for the viewer.
There are also numerous styles of advertisements that you can be added to your webpage. These ads can be posted as links or images and the placement of them are key. Make sure to place the ads you’ve selected in proper locations that can be easily seen and clicked on by the viewer of your webpage. However, you don’t want to take away from the content of your own site, so use the Google Help Option link and read the forums once you have opened up an account. Here you can see how others are placing advertisements on their pages and get a feel for what would work best for you.
Here are a couple of questions that I get asked frequently:
• 1. How do you make money with these ads?
People need to click on these ads in order for you to make any money, however it takes more than just clicking. They need to click the ads and go into those sites and make what’s called “impressions”. It does take numerous clicks and impressions before you start to see any income which is why it is important that you drive a lot of traffic to your site to begin with.
• 2. How do I get people to click the ads?
First off, DO NOT sit and click on the ads yourself and DO NOT tell people to go onto your website and keep clicking because Google does track this and will delete your webpage without reimbursement of any money you might have made off of the advertisements posted on your webpage. In order to make sure that you are consistently getting viewers to visit your webpage, you need to market your site on-line and off-line.
Provide information on your site that people searching the internet will find helpful and interesting to them. After all, if your page doesn’t contain the information needed in order to draw in viewers, they will just end up leaving your site and will never even see the ads you had posted.
In today’s technological world, quick and easy-to-find information is what people seek and what you should be providing. DO NOT push sales or what you are trying to “sell” to anyone that visits your website. This can backfire and end up work against you in the long run. If you just simply provide people with information they are looking for, the business you are striving for will follow.
• 3. How do I drive traffic to my website in the first place?
There are many ways to do this, but it’s crucial that you take the proper steps to market your website on-line and off-line. Start by marketing your website off-line just like you would market any other product or service out there. Next, is marketing your website to on-line surfers. When it comes to gathering information in a quick and easy manner, the internet is the most common method used today.
Choosing the right key words or tags will help optimize your website in the searches. There are many programs on-line that can help you find the proper key words and meta tags that will result in better rankings on Google and other search engines used. In fact, look up “Search Engine Optimization” or type “How To Choose The Right Key Words For My Website”. You will be surprised with what is out there. Once you have proper Search Engine Optimization, you will begin to generate more trafficking and business to your website, resulting in increased income.
• 4. Will having advertisement and Google ads all over my website, make it look unattractive or too confusing for the consumer?
Now-a-days, majority of the websites you visit have link and image advertising at the top, bottom, sides, and even smack in the middle of the page. It is very common to see this and instead of it being a distraction on your webpage, it gives the perception that these companies find value in advertising on your website. You want people to be interested in reading your webpage and in doing business with you. Just remember that proper placement of these ads is the key factor so that your webpage is the primary focus, not the advertisements.
• 5. I have tried Google AdSense in the past and didn’t make any money, why?
This is most likely NOT caused by the use of Google AdSense. It is due to your website being poorly designed and not optimized in the search engines. You need to keep statistics, which Google also helps with and learn by trial and error. Find out what is working and what is not. Again, make the effort to learn about search engine optimization and how to better market your website.
One last thing to keep in mind is that you can’t expect to sign up for Google AdSense and get rich quick while sitting there not doing a thing. If that is what you are looking for, then try looking elsewhere. This takes time and effort on your part. You need to properly optimize your site, with proper ad placement, providing interesting and helpful information that will drive people to your website and keep them there. Overall, your traffic will increase and so will the revenue you bring in.
